Member of the Week 7/11/2022 -- Guerne Heights Drive-In
To celebrate National Ice Cream and Hot Dog month in July, we are excited to feature Guerne Heights Drive-In as our member of the week! What better way to celebrate than to enjoy a soft-serve ice cream cone made with 10% butterfat and a deep-fried coney dog on a grilled bun at a local restaurant staple?
66 Years and Counting…
Guerne Heights was opened in 1956 by Richard and Jane Cutter, who developed the recipe for the famous coney dog that is still made exactly the same today. The Cutters retained ownership until 1995 when the Wengerd family acquired it. The Wengerds developed the 10% butter fat recipe for the soft-serve in 1998, making their ice cream creamier and even more delicious than before.
Throughout its long history, much of Guerne Heights has stayed the same. The overall footprint of the building, while featuring a remodel in 2007, is exactly as it was in the 50s. However, if you stop by today, you might notice a new outdoor seating area added this year, which is perfect for a family meal or a casual hangout!
A hometown experience
Featuring a walk-up window for ordering and pickup, the food at Guerne Heights is made while you wait! You can have your pick of 3 soft-serve flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and a rotating 3rd flavor, which this week, is dreamsicle! You also have your choice of at least 8 hard dip flavors, including sugar-free and dairy-free options. Beyond the coney-dogs, you can also get a fresh, 100% all-beef locally sourced hamburger. In fact, all the ingredients featured on Guerne Heights’ menu are from local distributors!
Adam Wengerd took over the business from his parents in 2019. He operates the restaurant with his friends and they are passionate about delivering a mouth-watering experience to their customers! The current hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
We all Scream for Ice Cream!
To show appreciation for their customers, and to celebrate National Ice Cream Day, Guerne Heights will be giving away free small cones this Sunday, July 17, from 12-6 p.m.!
